GGS Principal Rebecca Cody - White Balloon Day 2025
"Trauma experienced by one person... becomes a shared trauma and affects all those around us" - Peter Miller (A'82) Professor of Trauma, Aggression and Addiction Studies
Towards the end of 2021, Healing and Hope began caring for survivors and their families. Since then, we have supported 300 members of the Geelong Grammar School family. In particular, we have hosted 9 independent therapeutic occasions attended by 84 survivors and their family members.
These special events have changed lives; they brought together people who thought they were the "only ones". One mother of a survivor at our first event in 2022, shared with deep gratitude, "I've met other others like me now".
The daughter of a father who attended our Father's Therapeutic Day in 2023 said "following my father's attendance at your event, he has been open to talking about my brother's trauma for the first time. Thank you!".
A sister of a survivor attended our 2025 Healing and Hope White Balloon Day Acknowledgment event with her parents. Before her arrival and first visit to Corio campus she admitted she had wanted absolutely nothing to do with the School. The next day at our lunch gathering, her opinion had changed. "I can see how coming together and hearing Rebecca deliver the Survivor Apology meant so much to those present. My father wept in the front row as he listened".
This year, Healing and Hope brought together survivors and family members to hear from guest speakers Michael Magazanik (Rightside Legal) and Angela Cannon (Cannon Consulting). The group of 26, including some first-time attendees, soon relaxed knowing they were supported and understood in an environment where others present were also seeking healing, care and support following trauma and loss.
We provide ongoing practical support tailored to the needs of each individual while also hosting gatherings of support.
We are very grateful to those family members who have shared their Healing and Hope lived experiences for this year's campaign.
Thank you also to our current donors for your ongoing support and belief in what we do. We seek your continued financial support so this authentic and life-changing work can continue.
Prospective donors; please know that all contributions are vital and will have a meaningful impact on the lives of survivors and their families.

Thank you so much for taking the time to follow this up and write back with a detailed response, this is truly magical and so appreciated.
Looking at what the journey looks like ahead, I am going to need the assistance of my therapist and related professionals more than ever.
This level of commitment is incredible, and I cannot thank you enough apart from staying the journey and seeing a positive change at the other end.
It’s easy for victim survivors of child sexual abuse to sometimes feel forgotten. Healing and Hope makes sure they are always supported. They do this with sensitivity and genuine caring, always focusing on the individual, and what they might need.
This is very effective in changing attitudes towards GGS, from people who have been challenged by their exposure to rogue individuals, and from mistaken and inappropriate attitudes from the past. This brings hope for the future.
My friends (especially from GGS) are amazed and pleased that I’m supported, and had my assault acknowledged, accompanied by a genuine attempt by the school to reconcile the past.

2025 Impact Stories

Healing and Hope’s contact with me has been driven by them. A constant and (for me wonderful) reminder that someone cares. It’s a healing medicine that has bankable efficacy for me.
Healing and Hope appeared to provide broader acknowledgment from the school community to those afflicted. Such validation at a wider community level offers something beyond what individual psychological therapy can truly provide and can help undo at least some of the harm.
Your donation will help us provide on-going practical and meaningful support to those in need in our community.
